We offer a real “home-from-home” environment for our students. It’s important for them, because some will never have been away from home – and it’s important for you as a parent because you can be sure they are in the best hands with us.
We try to create an atmosphere for our students in which they can feel secure, make friends and concentrate on their studies. However, as they are away from home on their own – possibly for the first time – we offer pastoral support as well as providing their everyday needs. As a parent of teenagers myself, I know how important it is to offer a listening ear.
Time spent away at Tutorial College is a great way to manage the transition to University; it is a middle ground, a time to grow in independence in a safe environment. We encourage the students to enjoy their time here, but we definitely don’t want party animals!
We furnish and equip all our properties to a very high standard, with good quality, sometimes quirky furniture which we know will appeal to our students. The high standard is appreciated by parents, students and colleges alike. We want to make you feel at home when you are with us.
Our houses and flats are allocated to either boys, girls or as mixed accommodation according to demand every season. Under 18s are in single-sex accommodation and either have a house parent or are supervised. The properties allocated to over 18s can be single sex or mixed; there may be a house parent attached to these properties.
We provide a good range of breakfast food for the students to self-cater and our full-time chef delivers a home-cooked meal to the house every evening. We provide a good range of food to suit all tastes and encourage students to try foods that may not be common in their home country. More details of meals and menus are found on our menus page.
More than just a room
You can’t possibly fail to get attached to the students – I know all 60 of them by their first names. I believe one of the most important things we can do is to help them to learn values. One of my students last year said ‘Not only have you changed me as a person but one day thanks to you I will be a better husband'.
